In 2001 a miniature carving of a water bird was found in the Hohle Fels cave in the Swabian Jura in Germany. It is sculpted from mammoth ivory and measures 4.7 cm long. Dating back to around 33,000 BCE, it is the oldest known representation of a bird.
The image of the prehistoric bird struck me in its sensitivity, design and expression. This is a short comic inspired by this tiny, carved piece.
